Ryusuke Kido 木戸龍介 (b. 1984) graduated in sculpture at Tama Art University in Tokyo in 2009 and attended Master Course in sculpture at the Tokyo University of the Arts in 2011. Marble carvings are his graduation projects in which he captures the transitional forms of the formless — air, water, smoke or fog. For the two mirror pieces in this show, he ingeniously carved surface patterns onto them. At first glance they seems like surface defects but those patterns reflect light and created various shadow patterns. The use of acrylic and mirror are fresh in the technique and approach, presenting new possibilities in creating works of art with mirrors.
