Shiva the Hindu god of destruction is also known as Nataraja, the Lord of Dancers. Shiva Nataraja is said to be the source of all movement within the cosmos, represented by the arch of flames. Shiva Nataraja was first represented in a beautiful series of South Indian bronzes dating from the tenth and twelfth centuries A.D. The purpose of the dance is to release men from illusion of the idea of the “self” and of the physical world. This sculpture is depicted from the logo of Kantana Institute which is different from the commonly known Shiva Nataraja. The gesture of the dance portrays the ‘Nataraja’ post which represents the symbol of religion, art and science merged as one.
