Sudaporn TEJA สุดาภรณ์ เตจา

Sudaporn Teja (Thai: สุดาภรณ์ เตจา; born 27 August 1986) is a Thai abstract artist and contemporary artist. She started her early abstract paintings by applying thin layers of colors to convey the impression of a shallow pictorial space. Her oeuvres are in the synthesis of abstract form with psychological and social contents. Her solo exhibitions have been presented in Bangkok (2014, 2016, 2018), Paris (2015) and co-exhibited in SPECTROSYNTHESIS II - Exposure of Tolerance: LGBTQ in Southeast Asia (Bangkok 2019), Art Hsinchu (Taiwan 2018), Éclectisme (Paris 2016) and Art Stage (Singapore 2016).

Born and raised in Chiang Mai, her family name Teja has a long artistic lineage dating back to the reign of King Rama V (1868-1910). Teja is an ancient Lanna word derived from Pali, and it was Sudaporn’s great grandfather’s name Noy-Teja, a notable fiddler in his region and time, that was later adopted as the family’s last name. Her grandmothers and mother were also accomplished Thai Lue craftsmen whose family made silverwares and various types of weavings. Sudaporn’s Lanna artistic blood runs thick; both of her parents are also art teachers. These abstract works are her calls from within, the expressions by which she chose as a professional artist.

She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (2008) and Master’s Degree in Fine Arts (Painting) from Chiang Mai University (2013). Sudaporn Teja was invited by Thaillywood to join the residency program from 2013-2014. At Thaillywood artist residency, she produced paintings, which were selected by Serindia Gallery, which were later also exhibited in Paris. She currently works at her private studio in Bangkok.
